Scared Straight

So the reviews are in, and it appears people are afraid of our third film, Apocalypso. I have to admit I'm a little surprised. We weren't trying to make anything scary. Sorry if you lost any sleep.

We are still trying to find the time/motiviation to make film #4, but haven't started yet, which means, strictly speaking, we failed the challenge. But that's okay. We are now planning a pretty big project for the summer. Hopefully we have some news on that very soon.

We Did It Again!

We did complete another film this weekend. We did watch it and laugh at a few of the funnier parts. We did part ways with a feeling of accomplishment. I did neglect to create a copy to upload to the internet so that you could watch it. I do intend to do that this evening. Just hold on for one more day (or hours). Things will be okay.

Our train got broke

Friends, family, strangers... Aidan and I did not finish our movie today, but that does not mean that we are not committed to the cause. It might mean among other things that we are a little sleep deprived, working full time jobs, juggling some semblance of a social life, and once or twice a day we are sitting down to eat a meal. DO NOT DESPAIR! If you absolutely must watch an Aidan and Phil movie you may do so here. We'll get back on our movie make'n train this weekend.

It's A Living Thing

Phil and I took last night off to go and see Tim and Eric: Awesome Tour at the Knitting Factory. I think we really got our creative juices flowing! At one point, either Tim or Eric shouted "Who makes short films in their spare time and uploads them to the web and makes their friends sit through them?" Every hand in the audience went up.

New movie looks great!

Will be up tomorrow!

Time Marches On...

Two down, two to go. We are deep into pre-production on film #3 (yes, we do occasionally ignore the fact that we are making home movies and use words like "pre-production") and I think it will be the best yet. We're exploring a story about the music you listen to, and how it's related to your personality. That doesn't sound funny at all, but we think we have a couple of jokes that might work.

Our production goal for this film is not to leave everything for Sunday. We are going to try to shoot at least one frame on Saturday. Just one frame on Saturday and we will be way ahead on Sunday. Wish us luck.

Movie 2 - Shoot first ask questions later

Aidan and I completed another weekend of "skin of the teeth" "sweat of the brow" "seat of the pants" filmmaking. Our first scheduled shoot was scrubbed leaving us with only Sunday and forcing us to retool the script on the fly. I think it came out pretty well considering. And while we were at it I turned 26.

After the release of our first film some of you may have found yourself wondering just what is wankel rotary engine and why did we chose to talk about it in our movie. Let me ease your troubled mind. There is no answer to that second question, but I can assure you the genius of german engineer Felix Wankel is very real. For those of you who haven't bought me a birthday present yet, I'd like one of these. With or without the car...

Movie 2- Aidan's Brainstorm and More!

I think I know what an NFL coach feels like. You go to bed Sunday night a little tipsy, feeling great. You got the big win, a week of preparation has paid off. Your players are happy, the owners are happy, your wife is happy, and you feel fantastic. It can be like this all the time. You remind yourself to feel this good all the time.

You wake up Monday morning in a cold sweat, unable to breath. The next game is less than a week away. Your team looked awful yesterday, got lucky, should have lost. There is no way you can pull this together. You'll be destroyed, never make the playoffs, get fired. Who would hire you now? Your washed up. It's over. Might as well try to salvage a little dignity.

Repeat 16 times

No time to focus on the last film. Time to move on. Got to shake off the doubt. Got a film to make.

Tomorrow is a pretty big day, as you Bootleg Robot fanatics already know. It's a big birthday for a special guy: Michael Jordan. MJ has always meant a lot to us here at BooRo HQ, and Phil is a lifelong Buffalo Bulls fan. For Phil, February 17th is one of the biggest days of the year.

Birthdays get pretty weird as you get older. I just want people to come to my house, have Jello, give me a Lego set, and go home, but it doesn't work that way anymore. In this next film, I think it would interesting to follow a typical birthday, for example, Phil's, to potentially comic effect. I think it could tie in with some of Phil's ideas as well. We definitely want to pay more attention and be a little more meticulous. Don't hold your breath.

I'm serious about that Lego set.

A day off (sort of)

Sometimes we have to put our loved ones above our movies. Today was just one of those days. We'll be back and on schedule tomorrow. Hope you had a happy Vanhalentines Day!

Technical Difficulties

So the film is done, but I haven't had any luck exporting/ converting it, so it's not up yet, but should be tomorrow. I hope no one planned anything around seeing this thing right now. If you did, let us know and we'll try to compensate you, or better yet, overcompensate.

Almost There!

I just watched the very near final cut of the film with Lizzie and Joe, who helped out with the production, and it looks good. It needs some touching up tomorrow, but Phil and I are pleased with how our first short is turning out. We'll have the short, and some sobering reflections, tomorrow evening. I wouldn't make popcorn yet, but you could put a bag in the microwave so that you're ready.

Movie 1- Filming

We did the filming this weekend, and we can't really show it to you, but here's a taste:

Movie 1 - Filming and Phil's 2 Cents...

On the left you will notice a picture. At first you will appreciate the quality of light as it was a fine winters day. It is true, the sun did shine radiantly down upon our movie making, and indeed we basked in its benevolent light for the better half of Sunday afternoon. Secondly, you will likely comment to a nearby friend, spouse, live-in ex, or to anyone who happens to be within ear shot of your computer, at what a cute red stool that seems to be and how at home it seems in that lovely sun drenched kitchen space. Thirdly and finally, you will realize that it is not merely a kitchen and cheerfully painted piece of furniture, but actually a sound stage and a tripod. It is then that your heart will surly fall and your expectations for our as of yet unborn film will come crashing back to earth, which incidentally is exactly where we want them. Keep them there. Do not let them rise and I promise you that on Tuesday, when we post our film, you will at best be surprised and at worst no more than ambivalent and willing to watch again next week to see if we can raise the bar which we have set so dangerously low. That being said, I'm pretty excited. Thanks for checking in!

"Still" Waiting

You said it Aidan. Until ol' super scooper gets its act together, here is a "Still" frame from my 30 second movie.

Love,
Phil

More Like Super DeSuxe

Super Deluxe, our unwitting partner in this venture, appears to be having some sort of technical problem (no doubt related to the presence of Carlos Mencia on their homepage). Looks like our videos are down for now, including the harvey wallbanger that I just filmed. Hopefully they fix this soon, or it will be off to YousTube.

*UPDATE* John, a Super Deluxe employee, has left a comment in the comment section. He is correct, the site is working again. Three cheers to John for visiting our site and taking the time to add a comment. Let's see, Super Deluxe employees: 1. Relatives of the involved participants: 0.

Movie 1 - Phil's Script

Movie 1- Aidan's Script

So I wrote a script, a really short one, as well as some ideas for our film. I want to share them, but not give away the secrets. We'll find the right balance as we go, keep it interesting but not spoil it. Here's my script, slightly edited for your sake. Enjoy.
